Lynze Roos
Head Coach

Lynze Roos is in her fourth season at the helm of the Lynn University volleyball team. The all-time winning head coach in program history with a 61-39 record, she has led the Fighting Knights to three-straight winning seasons and back-to-back NCAA Division II South Region Tournament appearances.

Building on their success from 2007, the Blue and White had their best season in program history in 2008. Lynn set school records for wins in a season with 24 and finished third in the Sunshine State Conference for the second time in three seasons with an LU-best nine league wins. Advancing to the NCAA postseason, the Knights finished third in the South Region, arguably the toughest in the nation.

Three Knights broke career marks in 2008 under Roos' watch. Senior All-American Daris Rodriguez set the all-time record for block assists (212) and total blocks (242), fellow senior Christie Schade topped the digs record with 1,808 and sophomore Devon Woolard broke the assists mark with 2,284 in just two seasons running the LU offense.

Lynn had its breakout season in 2007, Roos' second year on the job. Tying a then-program record with 22 wins, the Blue and White reached the postseason for the first time ever. The Knights advanced to the semifinals of the NCAA South Region tournament with a 3-1 victory over Eckerd before falling 3-2 to top-seeded and second-ranked defending national champions Tampa in a heartbreaking five-game marathon.

On top of Lynn's 22 wins in 2007, the Knights also set a multitude of team and individual records. The Blue and White set single season program marks for kills (1,925), assists (1,757), block assists (458), total blocks (308) and block per game (2.39) while Camila Lins set the school record for kills in a season (539) and Rodriguez broke the marks for block assists (108) and total blocks (126). Under Roos' tutelage, the Fighting Knights produced their first All-American as Rodriguez earned AVCA Honorable Mention honors as well as being named Lynn's Blue and White Female Athlete of the Year.

Stressing academics as well as athletics, Roos' Knights squads have also earned four consecutive AVCA Team Academic Awards. Lynn was the only SSC program to earn the accolade all four seasons.

In her first campaign with the Blue and White, Roos' squad posted just the second winning season in program history at 15-13, playing with a shorthanded roster. Lynn's 8-8 Sunshine State Conference record in 2006 marked the most league wins in school history and the Knights' highest SSC finish tying for third.

Roos set LU volleyball records for winning percentage (.535), overall and conference wins for a first-year coach. Under her guidance, the Knights also defeated rival Barry University for the first time ever.

In addition to her duties at Lynn, Roos coached for Boomers VBC out of Fort Lauderdale and also served as the setters specialty coach with all levels from 13-18. Her 18-Elite team placed in the top 20% at the Colorado Crossroads and Big South Qualifiers in 2007 while her 17-Elite team placed in the top 20% at Big South and Lone Star Qualifiers in 2008.

Prior to Lynn, Roos spent two seasons as an assistant coach at Division I Samford University in Birmingham, Ala. With the Bulldogs, she assisted in all aspects of on-court coaching, especially with outside hitters and liberos. She also provided assistance in day-to-day operations, including recruiting and travel plans.

Roos coached at Samford after a three-year tenure at Pike High School in Indianapolis, Ind. As the head volleyball coach, she led the Red Devils to three top-four finishes in the conference as well as a sectional final. During her tenure at Pike, Roos had six players named to the Indiana All-Conference Team and two selected to the Indianapolis Star All-State Teams, both firsts for the Pike program. She also worked with the Pike Youth League, the Pike Fire Volleyball Club, and the Indy Select Volleyball Club from 2001-04 and started the Central Indiana Summer Volleyball League for high school programs.

As a collegian, Roos exemplified the term student-athlete. While an undergraduate student at Butler University in Indianapolis, she compiled a 3.5 grade point average on her way to a double-major in English and Education. She was named to the Dean's List for eight consecutive semesters, was a four-time NCAA District 12 All-Academic Team member and served on the Student-Athlete Advisory Board. Roos was named the 2001 Future Educator of the Year by the Butler Secondary Education Department and was selected as one of Butler's Top 100 Seniors.

On the court, Roos was equally impressive. As a freshman she was named to the Midwestern Collegiate Conference All-Newcomer team and later helped lead her squad to regular and postseason conference titles and the program's first NCAA Tournament bid. Roos was named a second-team all-conference performer in 1998 and 2000 and was picked to the MCC All-Tournament Team in 2000. She ended her playing career in Butler's top-10 in five categories and was named to Butler's Top 25 players in the first 25 years of the program.

Roos completed her Masters in Higher Education in 2007 at Lynn. The former Lynze Lysen, she and her husband Matt married in 2004.
