BOCA RATON, Fla.
- The
Lynn University Student-Athlete Advisory Committee hosted its 2nd
Annual Senior Prom at Stratford Court Retirement Home on December 13. Dressed to impressed, over 200 senior
citizens danced the night away with 16 SAAC student-athletes at the "Winter
Wonderland" themed community engagement event.
"This
is a really special event that we have made a commitment to doing each year
now," said Haley Pratt, junior volleyball player and Chief of SAAC. "We've become close with the seniors and it
was fun to bring a little holiday cheer to their lives."
The
Fighting Knights decorated Stratford's activities room to fit the "Winter
Wonderland" theme and just like any other prom, the seniors posed for pictures
upon arrival to the event, danced to the tunes of a DJ and snacked on
refreshments. The night was capped off
with the crowning of the Best Dancer and Best Dressed King and Queen.
"After
the success of last year's prom, we actually had about 50 residents show up 45
minutes early to the event," said Michael Woo, junior men's basketball
student-athlete and SAAC Vice President. "It was great to see their excitement. All of us student-athletes genuinely enjoy
visiting and putting on events for Stratford and prom is definitely one of best
events SAAC will organize all year."
This semester the
Fighting Knights have hosted six BINGO nights and the prom, accumulating over
300 service hours at Stratford Court. In
total for the term, the Lynn University student-athletes have served the Boca
Raton community with 950 hours at various organizations.
