BOCA RATON, Fla. -
Lynn University's softball team has pulled away with the lead in the 2009-10
Knights Cup Standings. The softball team
has accumulated 280.90 points to edge the men's golf team with 273.80 points
and the baseball squad with 272.63 points.
Student-athletes
will compete on behalf of their teams and earn points in the following
categories that align with the CHAMPS/Life Skills Program: Academic Excellence, Athletic Excellence, Personal Development, Career
Development, and Community Service.
The Knights Cup competition encourages the achievement of academic excellence,
promotes personalized choices for supplementing the student-athlete's
educational background, provides opportunities for personal development,
involves the student-athlete as a role-model/leader and supports the team
concept and encourages student-athletes to support fellow student-athletes. At
the end of the academic year, the team that has earned the most points is named
the Knights Cup Champion and will receive $1,000.
Softball holds the lead in the first scoring portion based
on Athletes Supporting Athletes points and attending more home events than any
other team on campus. Men's golf is in the lead for the men's programs in
part because of their extensive community service efforts.
Following the trio of top teams are men's tennis
(263.40), women's tennis (230.70), volleyball (222.20) and women's soccer
(213.35). Rounding out the teams are men's
basketball (186.03), men's soccer (174.70), women's golf (159.60) and women's
basketball (156.23).
The
final team winner will be announced at the athletic banquet on April 28.
