Winter Park, Fla. -
Lynn University won the 2nd Annual Sunshine State Conference
Student-Athlete Advisory Committee E.L.I.T.E. donation competition during the
2009-10 year, as announced by the league office. The Fighting Knights donated 4,122 items to
AnySolder.com, nearly tripling the amount of items of second place Barry
University with 1,391.
This initiative came together at the annual E.L.I.T.E.
weekend in September of 2008. The concept of the competition is for each member
institution's SAAC to choose an organization to donate items to. Throughout the
year institutions counted and donated items and reported their counts. The goal
was to have each institution get involved in their community and donate
tangible items that would help that specific organization.
In third place donating 750 items was Nova Southeastern
University. Florida Tech and Eckerd rounded out the standings with 203 and 169
items, respectively.
Five institutions participated in the competition this year. Barry
University donated items to Women in Distress of Fort Lauderdale, Eckerd College
donated items to the St. Petersburg Free Clinic, Florida Tech donated items to
the Daily Bread, Lynn University donated items to AnySoldier.com and Nova
Southeastern University donated items to Cooperative Feeding Program. The total
number of items donated to the five organizations added up to 6,635 items.
