BOCA RATON, Fla. -
Boasting a combined seven national championships and 12 Sunshine State
Conference titles, Lynn University's men's and women's tennis programs will usher
in a new era with the dedication of the new Perper Tennis Complex on Friday,
January 29, at 1 p.m. The dedication is
open to the public.
With plans first announced on January 30, 2009, Lynn's
million-dollar facility was spearheaded with a $500,000 gift from longtime
benefactors Mary and Harold Perper.
The state-of-the-art complex contains a total of six
courts, covered chair-back stadium seating, an electronic scoreboard and will
be the first outdoor lighted facility on the Lynn campus.
Lynn will host its first intercollegiate match at the
Perper Tennis Complex on Sunday, February 7, at 2 p.m. as the women's team welcomes
crosstown Division I foe Florida Atlantic University. The first contest under the lights will take
place Thursday, February 18, at 6 p.m. against Palm Beach Atlantic University.
Under the direction of head coach Michael Perez for the
past 20 seasons, the Fighting Knights have combined to win more than 700
matches and seven national championships.
The women's squad won NAIA titles in 1993, 1995 and 1996 as well as NCAA
Division II crowns in 1997, 1998 and 2001.
Adding to the programs' success, the men's team won its first national
title in 2007.
